Norwich City had to digest a 1-0 defeat at Leeds United – but Angus Gunn denied it’s back to square one for the Canaries.

Daniel Farke’s side went into Saturday’s clash off the back of their first defeat in eight league matches, but defeat at Elland Road left a familiar feeling – even though City’s performance was far from below par.

Pontus Jansson headed the game’s only goal from Pawel Cibicki set-piece delivery on 41 minutes, in an entertaining game where both sides created decent opportunities.

“I don’t think this feels like back to square one looking at the performance, because we played very well today,” said Gunn.

“We didn’t have too many chances but we did have good play and we got into the final third very well. It was just frustrating that we couldn’t get the equaliser in the end. We just need to look forward to Friday night now (when Brentford visit Carrow Road) and make sure we put it right.

“It’s concerning for everyone that we’re playing well for long periods and not getting things out of games but you have just got to keep at it, keep strong as a team, stay together and focus on the next game.

“We’ll look back at the mistakes we’ve made in this game and try to rectify them.

“To be honest I thought we were the better team overall in the game, but they took their chance and they were clinical. We need to install that clinical finish into our game and make sure we start picking up points now.

“It’s a tough one to take. Looking back on the game we played very well and got out of the blocks really quickly. We were on the front foot.

“When you come to Elland Road you expect to come under pressure, which they put on a bit in the first half. But I think we stood up to most of it well.

“The goal was at a bad time for us and set us back a little bit. But in the second half we came out all guns blazing again and we just didn’t find that quality pass or end product.

“It has happened a few times already this season (like this) and set pieces are a massive part of Championship football. The last few losses we’ve had have come from set pieces, so it’s disappointing.

“But we need to get back out on the training pitch and work on that, and then come back out on Friday fighting again.”
