Over 5,000 Norwich City fans will be roaring their team on at Wigan on Sunday and head coach Daniel Farke has sung the praises of the club’s ‘amazing’ supporters.

It will be the biggest Canaries league following in 15 years – since 4,500 made the journey to Watford as the team of 2004 chased the title – with Farke’s team knowing seven points from their final five games will guarantee promotion.

Seven may not even be needed, with City unbeaten in nine games and sitting six points clear of third placed Sheffield United after the Blades’ 1-1 home draw with Millwall on Saturday afternoon.

“It’s outstanding,” Farke said of the 5,300 fans travelling to the DW Stadium. “First of all I have to really praise, Delia, Michael and the club that we supported this situation.

“I think it’s a really great sign of the club and also how much our key people appreciate what our fans are doing for us but also to have this unity and this spirit.

“You felt it (during Wednesday’s 2-2 draw with Reading) when the stadium was, after the goals, like an explosion at Carrow Road. Also in difficult periods and after the game they tried to cheer up the lads and support them.

“This is exactly what we need. We are playing with such a young side and this support and togetherness with our fans is pretty unique and special, and important for the mood and the extra motivation of the players.”

A fleet of 25 coaches is set to depart Carrow Road at around 5am on Sunday morning, for the televised midday kick-off in Greater Manchester.

City will be trying to restore their six-point lead at the summit, after Leeds kept the pressure on with a 1-0 home win over Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday evening.

“Of course we are looking forward also to playing in this away game in front of the yellow wall, it’s amazing, especially for such a long away trip,” Farke continued ahead of the battle with the Latics, who sit two points clear of the relegation zone.

“They have to leave Norwich pretty early in the morning and we are unbelievably thankful and proud, it’s a sign that we have to really have this feeling that we are blessed to wear this yellow shirt. My players are and we’re looking forward to playing again in front of our amazing fans.”
