Norwich City have allowed back-up goalkeeper Paul Jones to join Exeter City on loan for the remainder of the season.
The 31-year-old was signed on a two-year contract in August 2016 but has made just one appearance for the Canaries and only featured as an unused substitute on a handful of occasions.
Jones was released by Portsmouth to allow him to join City but his only appearance came in a 6-1 home win over Coventry City in the EFL Cup second round at the start of last season.
He joins League Two play-off chasers Exeter, who are currently seventh in the table, where he made over 200 appearances between 2004 and 2011.
With Remi Matthews also going out on loan to Plymouth for the rest of the season it leaves Northern Ireland international Michael McGovern as the only cover for number one Angus Gunn, who is on loan from Manchester City, with 19-year-old keeper Aston Oxborough the next in line.
Jones, whose contract expires at Norwich this summer, is pleased to be heading back to St James Park.
“It feels really good to be fair. When I found out there was interest, it really excited me,” he told Exeter’s website.
“It was a no-brainer for me. As soon as I found out about it there was only one place that I wanted to come to.
“I am glad it is all done. It has been a few years since I was here and I have been at a few clubs since then but it feels really good to be back.”
Jones, who had only featured in two under-23 games for City this season, continued: “I am older now. I am more experienced and I have had more game time. I have been in different changing rooms, with different managers. So I have seen a lot since I have left. So hopefully I can use all that to Exeter’s advantage.
“I am fit. The only thing I haven’t had this much is game time this year. I have played a few under-23 games for Norwich but that is the only thing I am lacking.”
