Everton have reportedly moved to the front of the queue in the race to sign Norwich City midfielder James Maddison.
The Guardian claimed on Monday afternoon the Toffees will step up their interest later this week, after Marco Silva identified the City playmaker as a potential long term replacement for US-bound Wayne Rooney.
The fresh speculation comes after Everton and Leicester City were said to be ready to battle it out by the Mirror over the weekend for the £25million-rated starlet. Top-flight new boys Fulham are also apparently interested.
Both the Foxes and Toffees are ready to make their move and get the deal done in case one of the Premier League’s big boys enters the bidding. Tottenham, Manchester City and Liverpool have also monitored Maddison.
The former Coventry City youngster enjoyed an outstanding season with the Canaries before suffering knee ligament damage on the final day of the Championship season. He is expected to be fit for the start of pre-season although that is looking increasingly unlikely to be at Carrow Road.
