Emilio Nsue sets sights on win at Norwich City in his Birmingham debut
New signing Emilio Nsue hopes to make his debut for Birmingham at Norwich City on Saturday and knows he needs to help the Blues get back to winning ways.
The 27-year-old right-back signed from Middlesbrough in a deal worth around £1million last week and is hoping for his first Championship involvement at Carrow Road, as Gianfranco Zola’s side try to end a run of six league games without a win.
“For me I think the Championship is the most difficult league in the world with all the games you have to play,” the Equatorial Guinea international said.
“But it seems a good group of players here, and we have everything, but we have to do it on the pitch.
“At Middlesbrough we were a very friendly team and I think that is very important because it can be translated to out on the pitch - it’s like a family for me helping each other.
“For me that is one of the most important things in football and in this case in the Championship.
“We are in a situation that is not good at the moment and there have been a lot of games without a win so the most important thing now is to win this weekend against Norwich.
“I’m very excited about playing my first game in a blue shirt.”
The former Mallorca winger, now playing mostly as a full-back, played an important part in Boro’s promotion to the Premier League last season.
He fell out of favour early this season and has not played since September but aims to prove his quality for Birmingham.
“First I am a defender, that is the most important thing, I know that,” Nsue told his new club’s website.
“But sometimes when the [opposition] winger is a little bit lazy I like to go forward and put a lot of crosses in for our strikers. So, that’s my style of play.
“I think I can bring my experience because I have played many games in the Championship.
“I don’t think I am a superstar, I am a normal player who wants to help the club and improve.”
