Brentford goalkeeper David Raya believes Lady Luck wasn’t shining on his side after Kenny McLean’s deflected strike ensured Norwich City left the capital with a point.

The Spanish keeper felt his side’s performance warranted three points but accepts City’s quality made it a tough evening for the Bees.

Ivan Toney netted his 100th career goal after tapping in following a City concession from their own throw in. The Bees launched a slick counter attack before Bryan Mbeumo crossed for the former Peterborough striker to open the scoring.

City had to show patience, but were rewarded when McLean’s hopeful effort deflected off Mads Bech Sorensen, wrongfooting Raya and going into the net.

“They scored from a deflection, it wasn’t even going on target. It was their first attempt (in the second half) but that’s what happens in football. Sometimes you get luck like that and sometimes you don’t.

“It’s a point to take. We have to take the positives on board and move on,” Raya told Brentford’s official YouTube channel.

“We knew the way that they play. They play football. They like to play in the middle of the pitch, they put a lot of players there and like to combine. They don’t kick it long for a reason, they play with a purpose.

“We defended well. They didn’t create a lot of chances against us and you can see they were in the Premier League last year.”

Despite that, the shot-stopper believes his side should have left the Brentford Community Stadium with three points after a host of fine stops from his City counterpart.

That said, Raya is hoping to extract the positives from the performance as they push on to face Luton Town on Saturday.

“I think we deserved to get the three points. We started very well defensively, they created two chances in the first half but when we scored the first goal we squeezed them in.

“We kept the ball better and created the better chances and that’s what we missed in the second half, scoring that second goal.”
