West Ham have made a £12m enquiry for Norwich City starlet James Maddison.
The Guardian report late on Thursday afternoon Hammers’ chief David Moyes has followed up a scouting mission at last week’s FA Cup replay against Chelsea with a firm bid, to test City’s resolve to hold onto their prized asset.
Maddison had also been touted with Premier League big hitters Manchester City, Tottenham and Liverpool, but West Ham appear keen to try and snatch the England Under-21 international with a cheeky opening offer.
Maddison, who signed a new City contract in June 2017 keeping him at Carrow Road until 2021, has been a revelation under Daniel Farke’s guidance this season.
Farke, speaking last week, insisted Maddison has got used to speculation about his future in this transfer window.
“There is no danger of him being distracted,” he said.
“His attitude is brilliant, all the speculation and rumours are not easy for young lads but he is so focused and really grown up in his mentality. It won’t affect him.
“He knows sometimes the rumours and speculation are for the papers and perhaps not for reality. I get the feeling he is not scared.”
City sold Alex Pritchard to Huddersfield Town for a reported £11m earlier in the window, and Cameron Jerome to Derby County.
The German also sanctioned loan moves for Yanic Wildschut, Russell Martin and Steven Naismith, but City have moved to bring in reinforcements with Tottenham’s Marcus Edwards joining on loan, plus deals completed on Thursday for Onel Hernandez, Dennis Srbeny and Moritz Leitner.
