Building on a breakthrough season is the target for Norwich City prospect Aidan Fitzpatrick, after moving down from Scotland.

The Scotland Under-18 winger scored five goals in 28 games for Partick Thistle last season, playing regularly in the Scottish second tier to reportedly attract interest from Celtic and Rangers.

It was the Canaries who were really keen though, returning to seal a deal reportedly worth an initial £350,000, having had bids rejected in January.

"I was very pleased with it," Fitzpatrick said of last season. "I'd been there since I was 11 and played right from the under-13s to the reserve squad, then had that one season (at reserve level).

"Then I had a good pre-season and thankfully it kicked on from there and I had probably the best season that I've had playing football.

"So that's got me here and I'm thankful for that."

The 18-year-old was in the starting XI as City's under-23s began their pre-season fixtures with a 1-0 defeat to SV Lippstadt in Germany on Friday, the former club of Canaries head coach Daniel Farke, who play in the fourth tier.

Those preparations continue this afternoon with a friendly against the U23s of League Two side Colchester United (1pm kick-off) and Fitzpatrick has plenty he wants to improve upon now he's with a Premier League club.

"In the gym I want to get bigger and stronger, get fitter, and to work on the defensive side of things, but obviously I need to work on almost everything," he continued. "But that will come, the main thing is probably my defensive side and to get bigger physically.

"I knew I would be coming into a good squad, so I knew for myself I had to be up there and play well to fit in with the squad.

"Everything's gone well, a good group of boys and there's no shortage of talent in the dressing room so I'm looking forward to seeing how the season goes."

Stepping up to U19 level with Scotland is another hope for this season, adding: "I was capped at under-17 and under-18s and hopefully that can continue this year with the under-19s.

"I think the Euro qualifiers are in September so I'd imagine there will be warm-up games in August.

"Hopefully I'm involved in them, as well as at Norwich, and can push on from there."
