Dutch football journalist, Mike Verweij, from respected daily paper De Telegraaf tweeted later on Tuesday afternoon Krul has passed his medical and agreed a two year deal.

City have identified the ex-Newcastle United stopper as the experienced replacement for Angus Gunn, with Krul a free agent following his release from Premier League Brighton.

The Dutchman's representatives had been in discussions with Championship rivals Reading and Bristol City earlier this month but City stepped up their interest during the club's pre-season tour of Germany.

Head coach Daniel Farke made it clear it was essential the Canaries lined up a top drawer replacement for the departed Gunn, while Remi Matthews and Michael McGovern scrapped it out to convince Farke they could be his number one for the league kick-off.

Krul spent 12 years on Tyneside and is keen to remain in England despite serious interest from abroad.

Barring any late complications, Krul's arrival will be confirmed in the next 24 hours, leaving the 30-year-old free to make his debut potentially at Luton Town on Wednesday.

'In general, you can say you need a really outstanding goalkeeper to be successful,' said Farke, speaking at hte end of the club's German tour.

'You can be very happy with your squad but without this element you have no chance to be successful.

'That is the same in each and every league and competition.

'It is quite important. Look at the facts last season. Michael McGovern was our number two. Remi Matthews was our number three and for that we decided to send him on loan to get some minutes and our number one Angus Gunn has left.

'I trust them both and I would have no problem if one of them would be between the posts when the real stuff starts.

'I trust my keepers but without any pressure we can watch the market.
