Byram becomes the fourth senior signing of the summer for the Premier League new boys after loanees Ralf Fährmann and Patrick Roberts plus Josip Drmic and is already part of City's German training camp.

Here is a closer look at the 25-year-old's career

Byram has made 192 career appearances for Leeds, West Ham and most recently a loan stint at Nottingham Forest that was interrupted by a knee injury.

The right-back had 27 Premier League appearances for the Hammers, who he joined for a reported £4.8m in January 2016.

Byram originally broke through at Leeds, after signing for the Whites in 2010. An eye-catching spell at Under-18 level saw him promoted to the first team under Neil Warnock.

The former York Schools' prospect made his debut for Elland Road club in a League Cup win over Shrewsbury Town in August 2012.

A league debut came the following week when he earned plaudits for the marking job he did on Matt Jarvis in Leeds' 1-0 win over early promotion favourites Wolves.

Byram's meteoric progress saw him rewarded with a new three-year contract just two days after that league debut and only three months after signing his first professional contract.

The youngster's first senior goal came at the end of that month when beat two men before chipping the keeper in a 3-0 League Cup win over Oxford. Warnock was prompted to say, 'Sam will probably never score another goal like that in his career'.

Byram's first season as a professional ended with winning Leeds' young player-of-the-season and saw him touted with an £8m move that summer to Manchester City.

A hip injury prevented him linking up with England's Under-20s at the World Cup, and would disrupt the start of the following season. His first appearance came in September and that set the tone for a campaign where he made only 27 senior outings.

At the start of the 2014/15 season then Southampton boss Ronald Koeman suggested the Saints had failed with a £4.5m bid.

The following season Byram rejected the chance to sign a longer term deal at Elland Road, which paved the way for a mid-season move to West Ham for a reported £4.8m.

Byram's Premier League debut came in January 2016 in a 2-2 draw against the Citizens.

But he was unable to establish himself as a first choice with the Hammers and sealed a loan move to Nottingham Forest 12 months ago before suffering a knee injury.

Byram returned in April to make five final appearances and despite the departure of former Reds' chief Martin O'Neill was heavily touted with a City Ground return all summer.
