Dean Smith has a warning for Norwich City’s Premier League rivals after a 3-0 romp at Watford – we are coming for you.

The Canaries moved out of the bottom three on Friday night with a stunning victory against the Hornets at Vicarage Road.

Josh Sargent’s brace and an own goal in stoppage time from Juraj Kucka sealed a second consecutive top flight win and turned up the heat on their relegation foes.

“We certainly believe,” he said. “It can have an effect on the other teams around us. People will look at us now outside the relegation zone and believe we can stay up. We knew these were two big games and it was a real deserved win against Everton.

"We felt before those two games we had to keep it between the four clubs down there. Now maybe we can grab two others into this mix.

“To get the win was the main thing. I said before the game it wasn’t about the league table. Without the ball for a long period I was quite happy. We knew playing two up we would give up a player in midfield, but we felt with Adam (Idah) and Teemu (Pukki) we could create something. But it was Sarge who got it in the end.

"I just thought he had sliced it over the bar when I watched the game. I didn’t think it was over the line. But having seen it back, what an excellent finish. He has been waiting a while but he is a great lad and he deserved it.

"The goal in that second half gives everyone a lift, they changed the shape and had to go chasing and I felt we controlled it from there. Although I wasn’t happy with the final 15 minutes. I thought we got a bit too sloppy.”

City had to overcome a partial floodlight failure in the second half that had Smith concerned at one point.

“I was a little bit worried with the light situation. I was hoping some of the fans would start pedalling quicker but it was playable. The longer it went though, the fear it is called off,” he said, with Norwich’s recent wins earning Smith's squad some extra time off over an upcoming Premier League break in the calendar.

“Yes, we set the players a points target for these last three games so they will get six days off. Not a six day break though. We will still be working. We should have (Billy) Gilmour, (Mathias) Normann and (Lukas) Rupp back for the next Premier League game.

“I think the biggest thing that has changed in these past two wins was getting players back. We were decimated but getting someone like the captain back in Grant Hanley has been big. I did say we could have the best January window with the players we could get back.”
