Norwich City must use Carabao Cup frustration as fuel for their Premier League fire when they take on West Ham this weekend.

That's the view of Manchester City loanee Patrick Roberts after a thoroughly disappointing 1-0 defeat in the second round of the competition, away to League Two side Crawley Town.

It was the former Celtic and Fulham winger's competitive debut, as part of a totally changed team on Tuesday night, but it's not a night the 22-year-old wants to remember.

"We've got to pick our heads up now, obviously the disappointment is there but you can't dwell on it too much," said Roberts.

"You can review it and see what happened, see where it went wrong and try to take those positives, look forward to West Ham at the weekend and put in a good performance then."

A deflected early strike proved the game's decisive goal, with Roberts and Emi Buendia both denied by the woodwork as the Canaries chased an equaliser.

With 11 changes made to the team which were beaten 3-2 by top-flight big boys Chelsea on Saturday, it was an opportunity missed for those wanting to force their way into league contention.

"It was different players but it was the same ideas and same mentality," Roberts continued. "All the boys have been brilliant and if someone is out and someone else is needed to fill in, we know our jobs and we know what we need to do.

"Unfortunately we didn't get the result but we'll learn from these mistakes and put them right at the weekend."

West Ham made 10 changes for their tie at League Two side Newport County but managed to win 2-0, ahead of hosting the Canaries at the London Stadium on Saturday.
