I’m excited. We’ve only just scratched the surface on the new Norwich City Daniel Farke-philosophy and you can already see the sheer potential of this City side.

Slick, stylish football can now be witnessed across all angles of the pitch, not just from Wessi’s magical feet! You have every right to be excited for what’s to follow...

I received a text last week which read: “We’re going to win the league, I can’t stop dreaming about it.”

At first I thought my good friend was slightly intoxicated, then I realised that this text really was a genuine reflection of how a good chunk of the City faithful feel – confident and very ready for a fresh start under Farke. It’s worth taking a step back already to appreciate just how much of an attitude swing there’s been throughout the yellow and green army over the summer.

That confidence was evident within the Barclay Stand on Wednesday night. Finally, Carrow Road was a cauldron of noise for the whole game with decibel levels that arguably haven’t been reached since our famous semi-final play-off win against that unnamed team down the road. By the way, is there anything better in the world than a noisy Carrow Road under the floodlights?

Now, remember, there will be Sunderland-style hiccups along our journey this season. Defeats from sucker-punches totally against the run of play. Accept it and move on quickly, just like Farke’s boys in yellow did on Wednesday night; they seemed to instantly learn from every single mistake they made against Sunderland. Again, this is very promising.

Our new man-mountain defenders Marcel Franke and Christoph Zimmermann kept every long ball at bay, Zimmermann winning 100pc of his tackles. They look like a superb centre-back partnership in the making. Against QPR they seemed to create an aura of control and dominance, arguably, an aura that’s not existed at Norwich City since Malky Mackay and Craig Fleming played together.

A special shout for ‘one of our own’, Angus Gunn. He’d admit himself that he would’ve hoped for a better start back at his boyhood club, but in my opinion, he couldn’t have got to any of the goals conceded so far this campaign. Regardless, a solid performance midweek included a big save in the first 10 minutes which, had the ball gone in would have changed the whole complexity of the game. And to top it off there was some arm-pumping in front of the Barclay when we were chanting his new song. Superb.

From initial observations, Harrison Reed reminds me very much of Gary ‘Three Lungs’ Holt, a compliment in my opinion. The amount of ground that guy covered against QPR was quite something, not forgetting his absolute onion-bag spitter of a strike too. Just like when Alex Tettey scored his worldie against Sunderland, I’m sure Reed will hear the Carrow Road faithful shout ‘shoot’ a lot more when he’s on the ball now.

Something that I am most excited about so far this season is our intensity and aggressiveness when it comes to driving the ball forwards. Both James Maddison and Reed have been particularly good executing this: collect the ball, turn immediately and push on. Sideways football has been limited. As our new head coach would say, “I’m content” with this.

So it’s Aston Villa today and there’s nothing more I’d like to revel in, than to rock their Steve Bruce ship just a little more, especially after another season of expectation, caused by the signing of veteran Chelsea defender John Terry. Both the players and the fans will travel there with more confidence and, above all, the faith that we’ll arrive back in Nelson’s County with all three points.

On The Ball, City!
