Plenty to work on, was Daniel Farke's honest take on a spirited 3-2 comeback win over SC Paderborn to begin the club's German tour on a positive note.
The Canaries were two goals down before a stirring second-half riposte sparked by Dennis Srbeny and then a brace from Teemu Pukki.
Farke praised his side's battling qualities but was less than impressed with more signs of pre-season sluggishness.
'At the beginning of the game against Lincoln we gave away a sloppy 100pc chance and didn't get punished. Here we did the same and they scored,' he said. 'That is always a sign we are not awake enough so we have to speak about it.
'Then defensively there was another two or three mistakes.
'In our transition phases we had a lot of good situations but were not clinical enough in our final pass or final decision. We spoke about this at half-time – you can't win a football game when you are not concentrated in the crucial moments.
'Yes, it was a game of contrasts. To be losing and then to come back and win.
'I wouldn't say the performance was very different, so much, because in the first half I thought our structure wasn't too bad.
'We just had some poor mistakes.'
Paderborn's energy and high pressing troubled City in what was a big step up from previous friendly tussles against King's Lynn Town, Lincoln City and Crawley.
Now bigger tests lie ahead with a date against Union Berlin on Tuesday the next challenge.

'Paderborn played with lots of self confidence, they are used to winning games after being promoted last season,' said Farke. 'It was a totally different test to what we have had. I was especially pleased with the second half after being 2-0 down and our reaction to be able to turn the game in these conditions.
'We had two training sessions on Saturday, which was hard, and then we play here at this time of day when it was 30c at pitch level. To be able to win the game and the reaction in the second half we have to be pleased.
'Paderborn is a side I believe could play in the Championship.
'They will have a good season in Bundesliga 2. It was a test of our level, but when you win a game like that, even in pre-season, it is a good sign; while still pointing out one or two areas in which we can improve.
'We were not happy to be 2-0 down at half-time and yet we still wanted to win.'
