‘Fantastic. I was never prouder’ - Beaming Farke salutes table topping City after 2-1 Rotherham win

Daniel Farke savoured an extra special 2-1 Championship victory at Rotherham United that opened up a four point gap on the chasing pack.
Kenny McLean and Ben Godfrey sealed a sixth straight league success against Paul Warne’s fully committed Millers, but Farke was delighted to pass the test.
Farke was well aware of promotion rivals Sheffield United’s 1-0 win at Leeds in the early kick off but hailed his squad’s focus to do their job in south Yorkshire.
“You can’t avoid hearing the result. It is quite normal but we didn’t focus on that,” said Farke. “We knew if we produced a good result then we would improve our position. We did with an amazing win.
“Of course we know the situation now. Not just to Sheffield United and Leeds but to improve the gap to West Brom and Middlesbrough. More or less we have a big chance to finish in the top four, but we know we are in the fight for automatic promotion.
“Some tough games still to come. In the Championship the momentum can swing quickly. This is a massive result but we are not too self-confident. We know we are in a brilliant position but we know the hard work is still ahead.
“You could see the celebrations at the end. Each and every player was so awake and highly motivated. You could feel it on the bench. They were greedy to win this game.
“I was never prouder of my boys. This is an unbelievably difficult place to come, tough surroundings. Rotherham were unbeaten here in months. The home crowd was excited to help them in the relegation battle. They were fantastic, so well organised and willing to dig in and give everything.
“We had to show some steel, togetherness and dig in ourselves. We have produced more entertaining football and nicer combinations, but we had to win the battles and show a strong mentality.”
