Daniel Farke is not banking on Ipswich Town serving up a favour or two as Norwich City aim to seal Championship promotion.

City need a point to guarantee a place in the Premier League from their final two games, or slip ups from rivals Sheffield United and Leeds, who both play Paul Lambert’s relegated Blues.

City will win the title on Saturday night if they beat Blackburn at Carrow Road and the Blades drop points against Ipswich earlier in the evening.

Leeds, meanwhile, know only two high scoring wins, against Aston Villa on Sunday and a final day trip to Portman Road, will do if Farke’s side lose their last two league tussles.

“Without any doubt Sheffield United will win the three points this weekend,” said Farke. “I don’t expect a decision in the title. We are not stupid. We know it takes one point for us but this point is necessary.

“Look at the goal difference, if we lose the next two games we also lose some goals. Then if Leeds is capable of beating Villa they add some goals to their goal difference and if they play an Ipswich side who are relegated in the final game, and they need to score perhaps three or four goals, Leeds have the quality and the capability to do this.

“Goal difference right now looks good but it is not a guarantee we are over the line.

“We know we have to be fully switched on. I always try to be honest with my players. I don’t believe in playing psychological games. I tell them the truth.”

Farke’s squad can also create a little piece of history. If they clinch promotion on their own terms against Blackburn it would be the first time at Carrow Road since 1960.

“To be promoted at home would be special. It would be the icing on the cake,” he said. “It would be a perfect fit, to be at home with our fans, with all the players not in the matchday squad there as well. This whole unity that you can feel in the city, the county and the region.

“The only problem is in my experience football is never romantic and the picture can never be painted as you want it.

“You don’t get that very often.

“We had so many games where we had setbacks or had to fight back and the goals we scored in extra-time. That is all down to our fans helping us and sticking with us.

“It would be a thank you and a gift for them and well deserved. If I could paint a picture, it would be like this.”
