Daniel Farke is convinced he is the right man to lead Norwich City’s fightback after Premier League relegation.

The Canaries’ return to the Championship was confirmed following a 4-0 defeat to West Ham on Saturday which equalled a club record run of seven consecutive league defeats.

Farke apologised to supporters in the aftermath of a humbling loss, but is up for the challenge of plotting another shot at promotion.

The City coach also had a bullish reply for those questioning his own future at Carrow Road.

“Of course I expect to be in charge,” he said. “I am here on a long term contract, so it is not a topic we need to even speak about. We are totally united. I have a relationship with the board full of support and trust.

“The plan is to come back sooner rather than later and be in a situation where our lives are easier and we can invest a bit in the quality of the squad, and that should help us to stay in this league not just for one season but the next season and so on.

“We knew the sun would not shine every day. This is a setback but I think we will grow from this experience.

“We might look back and see how important this season was. Our mid to long term plan will always be to become an established Premier League club. Now we have to take the right steps from here.

“As unexpected as our Championship promotion success was it was so important. We have paid for our sins of the past, we were able to invest in the infrastructure and to keep our prospects and younger players on longer term contracts.”

Farke reiterated he does not expect a talent drain from Carrow Road during the close season, with the likes of Max Aarons, Ben Godfrey and Todd Cantwell sure to be touted with moves.

“I am pretty, pretty confident we keep all our best players,” he said. “It is not like we are working to maximise our income, our target is to maximise our success on the football pitch. We need our key players.

“I would hope they are willing to stay and we can start work on another project.”
