Daniel Farke confirmed Max Aarons suffered a shin injury in Norwich City’s 1-1 Championship draw against Coventry City at Carrow Road.

Aarons stayed down after a heavy challenge on Ryan Giles in the build up to the Sky Blues’ 89th minute equaliser before being helped to the tunnel with the aid of two physios.

The England Under-21 international was hobbling heavily but head coach Farke allayed fears he may have damaged ankle ligaments.

Aarons will now be assessed in the coming days with table topping Norwich next in action at his former club Luton next week.

“I am a bit sick speaking about injuries,” said Farke, who was within 13 first team players before the game and named only six substitutes in a bench packed with unproven development players.

“It seems like the ankle is alright. That is some good news but it is painful. He was not able to walk on his own and in the changing room it is pretty swollen.

“We hope it is a contact injury and bruising and in a few days it goes down.

"If I have to judge our luck with injuries at the moment there is probably going to be some bone damage. Let’s wait for the assessment. It is too early to judge.

“The one thing we don’t need is another injury. The ankle seems to be alright but the shin was bloody and swollen. That is the first assessment.”

Max Biamou cancelled out Mario Vrancic’s first half penalty when he slotted from close range after the stricken Aarons played the frontman on.

“You have to accept sometimes you are on the wrong side of the story late on,” said Farke. “It is always annoying to concede with seconds to die.

“At that stage you want to die, you want to kill. It is always the same with the emotions. But I can’t complain too much with what the lads are doing in the circumstances.

“We dominated the game, first half. Coventry is a good side. They had nothing to lose, they came here on the back of a clean sheet win over Cardiff and they played with a lot of confidence.

“We could have buried it before half-time. We had Josh Martin 10 yards out. Marco Stiepermann one against one with the keeper.

“We had one penalty, I thought we could have had another for a foul on Mario.”
