Timm Klose’s season could be over, revealed Daniel Farke, after suffering a suspected knee ligament injury in Tuesday’s 1-0 League Cup second round defeat to underdogs Crawley Town.

The Canaries' head coach faces an anxious wait for scans following the defender's first half exit with a knee injury at Broadfield Stadium.

Klose was making his first competitive appearance of the new season after recovering from a hip issue but lasted only 27 minutes in a miserable cup exit against the League Two hosts.

The Swiss international's previous spell in the Premier League was abruptly halted by a knee ligament injury following his January 2016 move from Wolfsburg.

Christoph Zimmermann was also forced off on his return from summer knee surgery but Farke allayed fears he could be out for a long period as well.

"The first report I have got from my medical department is horrible," said Farke.

"The first diagnosis with Timm is ACL. That would mean he is out until the end of the seassn or best-case, March or April. We hope and we pray it is not this news. It was an unlucky situation. The Crawley lad slipped and bashed into Timm.

"This can happen in these type of games. Timm needed minutes. We had 11 changes and five debuts. When you have this outcome to a key player and his season is nearly over you can only say it is horrible evening.

"With Christoph it was planned to bring him on the pitch for 45 minutes but with the injury to Timm he had to play a little bit longer and got a hit on his back and his hip area. The first news is it is more or less alright. We definitely need him.

"As we wanted to go to the next round my thoughts are with my players as much. We hope for the best in the next days. My biggest concern is not the result but my injured players."

The normally laid back Farke was also yellow carded after getting embroiled in an verbal altercation with a member of Crawley's backroom team following a stiff challenge on Ben Godfrey in front of the dug outs.

"I don't want to speak about the referee," said Farke. "I thought my reaction was actually quite reserved. We had about five penalty incidents and did not get one.

"Sometimes it is quite normal with so many changes you get a performance like this.

"When you play a side highly motivated, the game of their season, then it can be tough if they get a goal from their first situation. Then my side got a bit nervous."
