Farke confirmed Josh Murphy is back in his plans after apologising to the squad for what the head coach labelled an ‘unprofessional approach’ that saw him left out at Middlesbrough.

Vrancic (calf) will again miss out after being sidelined for the midweek 1-0 Championship win at Boro. Stiepermann will be another absentee at Reading. The German left-sided player played through the pain barrier at Middlesbrough, with a groin injury, but Farke revealed at Colney he has also become a father in the last 24 hours and will not travel to Berkshire.

“Marco’s still got problems and hasn’t improved,” said Farke. “It probably didn’t help we had him on the pitch at Boro, but we needed him out there at the end. He’s got a bit of pain and we don’t want to risk him for this match.”

Tom Trybull is fit for duty after getting a bang on his foot in the first half in the north-east.

“Trybull got hit in the first half and was in some pain and couldn’t walk after the game,” said Farke. “But the last two days have helped. He’s not 100pc and he still feels some pain, but he’s a fighter and will be fine for tomorrow.”

Nelson Oliveira is still feeling pain from his groin problems but may be fit for another brief cameo at the Madejski if required.

“Nelson didn’t feel comfortable in training this morning,” said Farke. “He will travel with us but he won’t be in the starting line-up. Although he’s not 100%, he can create something special in 15 minutes and he’s a good option to have on the bench.

“We’ll try to use the two weeks of the international break to try and get him back to 100pc fitness and to work out exactly what the problems are with his groin. I’m sad for him that he’s not in the Portugal squad but it’s important for him now to fully recover.”

Russell Martin is ruled out with a re-occurence of his back injury and Steven Naismith is awaiting scans on a potential ankle ligament problem suffered on his return to training earlier this week.

“Russ was back with us but still has some problems with his back after playing for the under-23s. He wasn’t able to train today so he won’t be with us,” said Farke. “We tried to bring Steven back on the pitch on Wednesday and he trained with us but then he got a bang on his ankle and felt a strain. There will be a scan and the first diagnosis is we will have to do without him for the next two weeks. It could be if there is a ligament issue that would mean several weeks but right now we hope it is just the international break.”

Alex Pritchard, Jamal Lewis, Louis Thompson and Matt Jarvis remain longer term injury absentees.
