Norwich City’s highly-rated attacking midfielder Todd Cantwell has joined Dutch second division side Fortuna Sittard on loan until the end of the season.
The 19-year-old travelled to Holland on Friday to seal a loan move just days after making his Norwich senior debut in the FA Cup third round replay at Chelsea.
Fortuna Sittard are currently third in Holland’s Eerste Divisie, the second tier of Dutch football.
“I brought him on the pitch in a difficult game at Chelsea, which shows I trust him,” Daniel Farke told the club’s official site. “But we have four new attacking signings, so it has become more difficult for Todd to get minutes.
“Now, at his age, it’s important he gets playing lots of games in a senior league, as he needs to step up from playing for the Under-23s.
“We hope he can get many minutes because he plays an important role in my plans for the summer.”
Dereham-bred Cantwell aims to impress in his first spell away from the club.
“I grew up at Norwich City, so this is just out of my comfort zone,” he told Fortuna’s official site. “When I heard of Fortuna’s interest, I consulted with the people at Norwich. We quickly came to the conclusion that this is a great step in my career.
“Fortuna plays with a young team the kind of football I like to play, offensive football. The club is doing well right now and I really want to contribute to that success.”
