Daniel Farke was not interested in downplaying the significance of Norwich City’s 3-2 comeback against Bristol City - a result he felt secured a Championship play-off spot.

Kenny McLean’s brace and Ben Godfrey’s close range finish inflicted a first league defeat in eight on the promotion-chasing Robins and extended the Canaries’ lead over Lee Johnson’s sixth-placed side to 13 points.

Norwich were behind twice but stormed back to the delight of another raucous Carrow Road home support.

“It feels good. We spoke before the game this was like a small final for us to keep the distance to a really dangerous side,” said Farke. “With this win we create an even bigger gap to positions six and seven. We are in a brilliant position. Now we can reach at least the play-offs because I don’t think six sides can get past us now. We are not going to lose the last 12 games.

“This was a huge win. We enjoy every win but to win this game against a really in form side. In each and every second on the pitch you could feel the self-confidence of Bristol. They were on a brilliant run. Plus the story of the game.

“To be behind twice and to come back makes me happy and proud of the players. We played an outstanding second half, I can’t remember one chance for Bristol. In that period we had 16 shots on the goal but I felt we needed a fourth goal because Bristol is so strong attacking-wise.

“When two teams on this level play it is normal both have periods when they are on the front foot. You have to accept the opponent will have good possession. We conceded the first goal by making the wrong choice on a counter situation.

“But the reaction was good, we equalised and immediately afterwards we were too greedy in our pressing not once but twice and Bristol used this moment. You are always a bit annoyed because small situations can decide the game but I am so pleased how we responded.”
