He might not score many but when Alex Tettey hits the back of the net they are memorable. Now the Norwich City midfielder has been crowned the scorer of Norway’s best ever Premier League goal.

The country that produced top strikers like current Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solksjaer and former Chelsea frontman Tore Andre Flo overwhelmingly voted Tettey’s first top flight goal in England against Sunderland as the best in the history of the Premier League.

Tettey celebrated the anniversary last weekend of his long range looping finish from March 2014. Norwegian television station, TV2, asked viewers to rank the best goals from 533 scored by Norwegians in England’s top flight down the years.

That field was narrowed down to 64, divided into 16 groups of four before only two were left - Tettey’s Carrow Road winner against Sunderland and Morten Gamst Pedersen’s effort for Blackburn against Middlesbrough in 2005.

But Tettey polled 72pc of the votes in the final round. The club’s longest-serving player at present also sealed a landmark win over Manchester United at Old Trafford among the seven league goals in 218 City appearances since his move from Rennes in 2009.

The combative midfielder remains an important part of Daniel Farke’s plans and was rewarded with a new one year contract extension in recent weeks.
