Leauge One promotion hopefuls Shrewsbury have confirmed they are in talks with Norwich City to extend Ben Godfrey's stay.

Godfrey has impressed in a loan switch to Shropshire which has worked out for both parties, and Shrews’ boss Paul Hurst wants the teenager to return when his current short term move ends early next month.

City head coach Daniel Farke intimated last week Shrewsbury would be his preferred plan for the next phase of Godfrey’s development, after the defensive midfielder was touted with a clutch of Premier League clubs ahead of the January transfer window.

“I didn’t hear those words (from Farke) but we’ve had dialogue and it’s something that we might be able to do,” said Hurst, speaking to the Shropshire Star. “We’ve had a positive chat so hopefully that’ll be one that we can get done.”

“He’s done extremely well. What he is, and we have to remind ourselves, is a very, very young player.

“It’s his first real spell of playing first-team football. He played at York as a 16-year-old and no disrespect to himself or York but he probably just ran around.

“He will have had some instruction but when you’re 16 you probably don’t really comprehend what exactly is going on.

“Now he knows what he is and what his profession is. He will go on and have a really, really good career.”
