Andrew Omobamidele’s on-going back problem is a concern for Dean Smith.

The highly rated young Norwich City defender has only featured once for Smith, at Tottenham in early December, and has had to return to a specialist after pausing his latest comeback.

The 19-year-old was diagnosed with a stress response in his lower back, but Smith confirmed yesterday they are no nearer getting a date for his return.

“He went back to see the specialist and they've put him in a corset at the moment. So they're a little bit worried about it,” he said. “I think he’ll be in that for the next two or three weeks. I've only worked with him for three or four weeks in total on the training pitch, he's only had one game at Tottenham, where he played really well, but he is a lad with lots of potential.

“He probably is still growing given his age and his size. We have to make sure that the back gets settled. We know how dangerous it can be if you get a long term injury in that area.”

Omobamidele's Republic of Ireland international team mate Adam Idah is expected to be out for the season with a knee issue.

But Smith confirmed at Colney on Friday, ahead of Brentford's Premier League visit, both Max Aarons and Brandon Williams are fit and available after missing out at Liverpool in the FA Cup as a precaution following knocks at Southampton.

Ozan Kabak was scheduled to train on Friday morning and will be in contention if he suffers no reaction to a shoulder problem.
