Here is Paddy’s verdict on Dean Smith’s Norwich City, who flattered to deceive one more time on Premier League duty.

• Angus Gunn 7

Big chance and more than justified his selection in the first half with an array of dazzling stops. Arguably the pick was going full length to claw out James Maddison’s rising strike. But prior to that an impressive double reaction save to foil Youri Tielemans and then Jamie Vardy.

After it, sticking out a left leg to thwart Ademola Lookman on his goalline. No luck in the manner Vardy’s deflected strike spiralled up and over him. But must feel he could deal better with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's cross that was crashed home on the rebound by Maddison.

• Max Aarons 5

Subdued in an attacking sense, bar perhaps that burst to the byline and cut back in first half stoppage time skied over by Billy Gilmour.

Too slow to get across to intercept Dewsbury-Hall's cross for the third. Needed treatment in the first half after a heavy whack from Harvey Barnes. Composed to turn out of trouble when Madison circled.

• Sam Byram 6

Steady again but part of a backline that creaked and was exposed by Vardy. Intercepted a low cross destined for Lookman early on that underlined his ability to read the game and sense danger.

Another example was a clearing near post header a minute before the interval.

• Grant Hanley (C) 5

Less assured that had been despite Norwich’s downward spiral. Exposed by the pace and movement of Vardy. Luck was out after he recovered his ground to square up the striker but deflected a shot up and over Angus Gunn.

Made to look static again when Vardy ran off the back of him to crash Barnes’ pass above Gunn. Foiled Lookman twice in the first half with strikes from the edge of the area. Tame far post header failed to trouble Kasper Schmeichel.

• Dimi Giannoulis 6

Most of the carnage came down the opposite flank of Norwich’s backline. Drilled a low shot at Schmeichel in the 17th minute. Later threaded an inviting ball through to Tony Springett to spark another counter.

Inswinging corner eventually found a way to Grant Hanley, who headed at the keeper. Better defensively in terms of his man marking than on previous outings.

• Pierre Lees-Melou 5

Interestingly deployed in a deeper-lying role in front of the back four after a spell operating in behind Teemu Pukki. Out sharply to snap in on Maddison. Then shut down Tielemans inside his own six yard box in a frenetic start.

Blocked a Maddison curling effort, and then survived appeals for a penalty from the attacking midfielder after his shot struck the upper arms, which were clearly tucked into his body.

• Tony Springett 6

Another big game in his young career. Wanted to get on the ball and drive infield at every opportunity early on, with his body swerving antics. A better ball from Milot Rashica in the 14th minute and he is the favourite in a duel with Schmeichel.

Rolled in Pukki with a perfectly-weighted pass in the 45th minute, who drew Schmeichel but guided his shot against the base of a post. One blemish when he was a fraction slow to hold off James Justin, who fed Barnes and in turn Vardy to double the Foxes’ lead.

• Lukas Rupp 5

Smith spoke pre-match about the drive City had missed this season with the German’s prolonged injury spells. Certainly burst into the box when found by Rashica in the 34th minute but his cutback was intercepted.

Slipped in Pukki after six minutes, who tried to be too cute and turn inside Jonny Evans when he had a shooting chance. Withdrawn on the hour mark.

• Billy Gilmour 5

Some good, some not so good from the Chelsea loanee. Set Springett racing away with a raking crossfield ball. Schmeichel dropped on his tame long range effort before he skied over a cross from Max Aarons.

But, defensively, found wanting again. Lost out to Tielemans in his own half that ended with Vardy on the stretch guiding a cross over. Barnes danced around him too easily for Lookman’s chance. Then too slow to react with Maddison when Gunn’s parry dropped into an inviting area.

• Milot Rashica 5

Simple pass to execute but rolled it across the penalty area and behind Springett for a golden Norwich chance. Did pick out the overlapping Rupp, but was substituted again early in the second half, and increasingly cuts a forlorn figure.

Smith was critical of the aimless cross he delivered that indirectly led to the Foxes’ sweeping counter for the opener.

That speculation around a summer transfer window exit will only intensify from here.

• Teemu Pukki 6

Guided a finish past Schmeichel but against the foot of his near post with the game goalless. Spurned the chance to shoot in the sixth minute when he opted to check inside the wily Evans.

Virtual spectator in that one-sided second half, as the goals flew past Gunn.

Subs:

• Jacob Sorensen (for Lukas Rupp, 59) 4

Weak as Barnes moved through the gears on the edge of the Norwich penalty area to slip in Vardy.

• Przemyslaw Placheta (for Tony Springett, 62) 4

• Jon Rowe (for Milot Rashica, 62) 4
