Football in the Community's Player Development Centre put its advanced programme into full effect by testing its players against their Colchester United peers.

FITC's half-term festival at the end of October, held at City of Norwich School, saw 240 players on Norwich City's PDC books – from Under-7 through to Under-15 level – strut their stuff.

The development centre programme is a strictly invitational coaching scheme that feeds into the Canaries' Academy, with players selected from seven centres across Norfolk: Gorleston, Lowestoft, Cromer, King's Lynn, Wymondham, Thetford and Norwich.

The emphasis for the players is on developing skills and football knowledge, although their festival against the Us also gave them a chance to test their competitive edge.

Development manager Darran Lovell said: 'It was a fantastic opportunity for the players to represent the FITC Player Development Centre against a fellow professional side.

'The games were a great way to enhance the development of all the players involved as well as monitor their progress in a competitive environment.'
