Swimmers from every county in Britain took to the water at Ponds Forge in Sheffield, for the British Gas ASA National County Team Championships.

English Olympians and Commonwealth medallists Ross Davenport and Sarah Price were deck hosts for the day, and the Norfolk team were lucky enough to have Sarah interview them during the 15 minute break in an afternoon on which they finished 13th in the Division Two gala on 310 points.

Among the Norfolk successes were Great Yarmouth's Jack Utting, who took first in the 12/13-years 100m backstroke, in one minute 3.78 seconds. He was also fifth in the 12/13-years 100m butterfly, and part of a winning 200m medley team that included Adam Crafer, Issac Kirby and Jack Thomson.

North Norfolk's Adam Crafer claimed second in 12/13-years 100m breaststroke, in a new personal best of 1:11.61.

UEA City of Norwich's Marcella Aris was fourth in the 14/15-years 100m freestyle, in 58.30, while Jed Snell from Dereham was fifth in the 14/15-years 100m breaststroke, coming fifth in 1:09.01.

Daniel Smith of Great Yarmouth, claimed fifth in the 16/17-years 100m backstroke, in 59.25, with Jack Thomson of the UEA club sixth in the 12/13-years 100m freestyle, in 59.58.

The Norfolk team captains, selected for their outstanding commitment to the county's swimming, were Mark Collins and Katie Sykes, both from West Norfolk Swimming Club.

Stewart Park (team coach) and Katie Bull (team manager) were delighted with how the team performed. They now look forward to the next competition on December 12, held at Ipswich's Crown Pools.
