Horsford cycling star Sophie Wright has been named in the Great Britain squad for the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in Australia.

The 18-year-old is currently healing up after suffering some nasty cuts and bruises when breaking her right shoulder blade during a fall on a ride while on holiday in Durham.

But a fantastic 2016 has ensured Wright will be heading to Cairns, in Queensland, on Australia's north-east coast to compete in the junior women's category between September 5 and 10.

Last year the Hellesdon High School sixth-form student won the European junior cross-country title in Sweden and followed that up with fourth place in the junior women's cross-country category at the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in the Czech Republic.

Wright, part of British Cycling's Olympic Junior Academy, was subsequently nominated for the British Cycling Rider of the Year award and now has another chance of world junior glory.
