City boss Paul Lambert admitted he was "gutted" for his players as Swindon's stoppage-time equaliser denied them a fourth successive away win.

But he still believes the point they earned in a 1-1 draw at the County Ground will be a vital one.

Both captains scored as Gordon Greer's header cancelled out Grant Holt's 28th goal of the season for the Canaries.

However, Lambert insisted: "It could be a massive point. I'm delighted with the lads' desire and workrate. I couldn't fault them, against a team that was going really well. I'm disappointed we lost a goal in the last seconds but the lads have been brilliant for me.

"Deep down, I know what we've done.

"We are still at the top, other teams haven't really made any headway and it's another away game for us and another point."

He admitted there was always a danger the one goal from Holt's "terrific header" would not be enough.

"You're never quite at ease at 1-0," he said. "Even if we are not going to get a second maybe we should have done a little bit better with the ball. But I can't be critical of people dropping people in the box because in general terms I think we have been excellent this season."

Two fine saves from Fraser Forster immediately before Swindon's equaliser appeared to have made the game safe.

"You think when he makes the saves you're going to see it through," said Lambert. "I'm really disappointed, gutted for the lads, gutted for the fans that come and watch us."

City face second-placed Leeds at Carrow Road on Saturday, though the Yorkshire club first take on Millwall at Elland Road tonight.

"We've got a terrific game next week and we'll be ready," said Lambert.
