Evgeny Bobreshev used all his experience to capture his second MX1 Maxxis British Motocross title, albeit eight years apart, when he rode to a brace of second places at the final round at Lyng on Sunday.

The Lombard Express Suzuki rider had a 39-point deficit to make up on series leader Jake Nicholls who was a frustrated trackside spectator after breaking his leg in a freak accident two weeks ago.

Honda did their best to protect their riders' championship lead by drafting in MX2 star Steven Clarke and GP frontrunner Bulgarian Petar Petrov, but Bobreshev, who ironically won his last British championship when riding for Honda, was in no mood to be intimidated and stayed well out of trouble by comfortably following home double race winner, Bike It/DRT Kawasaki mounted Tommy Searle.

Bury St Edmunds' Elliott Banks-Browne claimed the third podium spot in the opening MX1 race, but a poor first lap in the second outing left the Geartec Husqvarna racer working his way through the pack to finish seventh, leaving him six points shy of Searle and having to settle for fourth in the final reckoning.

On an afternoon when the conditions were as challenging as the competition, Conrad Mewse lifted the MX2 class honours despite racing with an injured hand sustained at the final Grand Prix of the season just a few weeks ago.

Arriving at Cadders Hill for the season finale three riders were within 15 points and all capable of going home with the champions' gold number plate. However, it was Revo Husqvarna's new signing, New Zealander Dylan Walsh, who was making his UK race debut that stole the show in the first MX2 race with an emphatic gate to flag victory. His new team mate, Mel Pocock overcame title rival Josh Gilbert in the closing two laps to grab second, and Mewse forced his way up to fourth on his Hitachi KTM UK machinery to set up a final race decider.

From the moment the gate dropped for the season closing encounter it was Mewse that showed his two years of world championship experience as the 19-year-old headed home Buildbase Honda's Gilbert, Pocock claimed third to ensure that the race podium reflected the final positions of the seven round series.
