Three East Norfolk Sixth Form College students have taken the next step towards international sporting honours - in both rugby and football.

Jessica Atkinson and Isabel Rothon have both been selected for the England Colleges' rugby squad, which will be getting together at the end of the month in preparation for their first match against Scotland set to take place in early February.

Both girls are members of the college team which has a reputation for fast moving, open attacking play.

In men's football, goalkeeper Kai Hewitt has been called up for the final trial for the English Schools Football Association Under-18 team.

The final selection weekend includes trial matches against the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force teams prior to a squad of 18 being named for the forthcoming international matches.

College principal Laurie Poulson commented: 'It is good to know that local young people can get this sort of national recognition for their sporting prowess.

'It is a fitting reward, for all the hard work that they have put in, to be in such select company.'
