The defending Norfolk County Triples champions put up a determined effort to retain their title at Hingham Sports & Social Club but were beaten by just one shot as David Lamb of Halvergate and Bob Carter’s Jamie Forster & Gary Best lifted the title.
Last year’s winners Jack Marshall of Connaught, Morgan Warnes of Horsford BC and Jack Pye of Wymondham actually won more ends but the third end proved fatal as they conceded four shots.
The play-off for third place was won by Bob Carter’s Nigel Willard and Melvin Woods and John Turner of East Tuddenham who beat Thorpe Marriott’s Jenny Walker, Peter Walker and John Jarvis by 11-4.
The semi-finals saw Gary Best’s triple beat John Jarvis’ triple 12-3 while Jack Pye eased to a 13-4 win with an end to spare against Melvin Woods’ triple.
In the quarter finals Gary Best beat Robbie Lamb 21-2, Jack Pye edged out Jon Sparham on an extra end, Melvin Woods also won on an extra end against Keith Cooke while John Jarvis came from behind to beat Rob Cranston 8-7.
Bure Cup holders Halvergate are safely through to this season’s semi-finals after overcoming a two-point deficit from the first leg at Hevingham. The visitors failed to stop Halvergate making home advantage count as they racked up a 16-4 lead before Hevingham conceded. David Knights, Steven Lamb & Simon Warnes led the way with wins of 6-5, 11-1 and 9-2.
In the Bure League defending champions East Tuddenham began their campaign with a 6-4 home win against Woodbastwick thanks mainly to a big 21-5 win by Chrissie Turner, John Turner & Gary Best against Willie Jefferies’ triple. Elaine Willies, Gerald Potter & Melvin Woods added a 19-10 win against Peter Jablonowski. The visitors were far from disgraced though as Doreen Scarfe, Norma Jablonowski & Margaret Harman beat Robert Howlett’s triple 21-9 and Les Harman, Tony Wright & Derek Sheldrake beat Simon Willies’ triple 17-8.
Woodbastwick recorded a 6-4 home win against Horsford BC with Willie Jefferies’ triple winning 19-6 and Derek Sheldrake’s triple winning 17-10.
Defending Breckland League champions Wymondham had to produce a strong second half performance to win 8-2 at Harling Unicorns. L Chilvers, N Battley & Roger Braham gave the home side hopes of a shock victory with a big 24-7 win against Debbie Sparham’s triple. Wymondham hit back though with a 15-10 win for Chris Mann, a 20-11 win for Jon Sparham and a 24-10 win for Jack Pye. Harling Unicorns blew away visitors Banham beating them 10-0 on points, 110-39 on shots. Val Hester, Chris Jones & Matt Cunningham won 36-13 and Mo Tarrent, Daphne Braham & Mike Tarrent won by 34-7.
The Unicorns also won 8-2 at Shropham where Roger Braham’s triple won by 30-4. Hempnall won 6-4 at Diss in the South Norfolk League but a terrific 26-7 win for Tony Oram, Allan Buckingham & Graham Mobbs earned the home team four of the points despite losing on three mats.
In the City of Norwich League Horsford BC beat Deaf Sports 14-0 to remain top of the table 29 points clear of second-placed Horsford Heroes. Jarrolds are third after a big 12-2 win away to First Bus. A couple of good away wins saw Thorpe Marriott strengthen their position. Marriott won 8-6 at British Rail and 13-1 at Windows. Taverham continue to struggle, they lost their eighth match in a row going down 10-4 at Costessey. Jarrolds won 9-7 at Windows in the City Shield. Coastal League leaders Woodbastwick Owls won 18-0 at home to Hemsby Harvestors and added a 12-6 away win against Bradwell Dynamos. But in their local derby at home to Woodbastwick Eagles they lost 10-8.
