Chris keeps his nerve to clinch county final glory

Steve Phillips, Debbie Phillips, David Lamb and Chris Mann of Wymondham and Halvergate retained their Norfolk County Fours title at Lakeside after defeating Mike Harvey, Kerry Greenacre, Jenny Walker and Peter Walker of Haddiscoe and Bradwell by 6-2 in the final.

A low-scoring final saw Mann's rink go into the last end 5-2 up, but when he played his last bowl he was under pressure with Walker's rink holding three shots. His attacking shot clinched the title as his bowl finished up as shot wood leaving Walker's rink disappointed.

In the playoff for third place, Sheila Redwood, Ted Redwood and Trevor Pinchin of Thorpe Marriott, playing with Sprowston's Peter Smart, beat Andy Drummie of Horsford and Pat Saunders, Brian Saunders and Mark Linsdell of Wymondham by 4-3. Chris Mann's rink had reached the final after a blistering 16-1 win against Peter Smart's rink in the semi-finals.

Bure League champions Kirby Bedon began their season with a 10-0 win at St Faiths where Leonora Chilman, Teresa Goldsmith and Selwyn Goldsmith won 37-4. Woodbastwick also opened with an away win inflicting a rare 10-0 home defeat on Hevingham with M Fox, T Hallett and Tony Wright winning 15-13. In the City League title chasing Thorpe Marriott and Costessey met with Marriott winning their third game in a row by 10-4. Horsford BC will be delighted with a 10-4 home win against First Bus. Deaf Sports did well to beat Horsford Heroes 9-5 but a 12-2 defeat at Costessey leaves them mid-table. Wensum League action saw Halvergate lose narrowly at Bob Carter. Breckland League leaders Wymondham failed to end their miserable record at Banham slipping to a 6-4 defeat despite wins for Chris Mann and Brian Saunders. John Williamson was in good form for Banham beating Debbie Phillips' triple 16-12. Breckland League giants Yaxham lost 6-4 at home to Forncett in a big upset. The scale of the defeat would have been worse if it was not for a strong performance by Russell Flint, B Mash and Russell Harris who beat Alan Aldridge's triple 21-8. Connaught A have started the season with two wins defeating Hingham Yellow 8-2 and Hingham Green 6-4. Bob Carter opened their Tens League season with a convincing 4-0 home win over leaders Kirby Bedon with David Lamb's triple beating Joe Brown 31-6. After just four games it is already difficult to see anyone other than Hempnall winning the South Norfolk title. The defending champions destroyed visitors Mulbarton clocking up 95 shots against just 25 in a 10-0 win before winning 9-1 at Watton.

After two defeats Framingham Earl got their first win of the season beating Saxlingham 10-0.

Saxlingham took all ten points at bottom club Mulbarton where Geoff Briggs' triple snatched a last end win to make it a clean sweep. Woodbastwick Eagles moved nine points clear in the Coastal League after a 14-4 home win against South Walsham.
