Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe has revealed he is closing in on his first summer signings - a list that could include Norwich City full-back Rhoys Wiggins.

The 22-year-old defender has made 32 appearances in two loan spells at Bournemouth, playing 19 times in the season just ended to help the Cherries finish second in League Two.

Howe has had talks with several possible targets as he looks to bolster his resources ahead of the new campaign in League On, and hopes to unveil some of his new recruits in the next few weeks.

He said: "We wanted to get most of our dealings concluded early and have been busy since the season finished. We have been talking terms with people and working on trying to finalise negotiations.

"Even though we were under an embargo, we always kept an eye on who was out there and went to watch lots of games. We have identified the players we wanted and are now starting to close in on those players. Hopefully, some of them will be announced in the not too distant future."

The Football League still has to approve any signings Bournemouth make, and Wiggins, who joined City last July on a two-year deal, was one of only four emergency loans sanctioned during the club's transfer embargo.

After the Cherries clinched promotion, Wales Under-21 cap Wiggins said he felt like a permanent member of the squad, but admitted: "I honestly haven't got a clue about next season. I've spoken to my agent and he has been top drawer. We're just going to see what the summer brings."

As for a permanent move to Dean Court, he said: "I would never rule it out. Bournemouth have been brilliant for me and I have enjoyed both spells here."
