An Angling Trust-sponsored exercise described as ‘family fishing’ commences free of charge on the Barford Lakes on April 5 and 12.

Looking further ahead, Barford is also staging a four-match series on April 30, May 7, 14, 21. Draw 8.30am. Entry £25 per match plus optional pool for the highest aggregate £10.

Members of the Norwich and District Anglers Association are invited to have their say at the AGM on April 4, 7.30pm, in the Canary Club, taking steps to survive the declining interest by younger generations whose rod licences have plunged by more than 56pc in six years.

General secretary Tony Gibbons commented: “I’m hoping for a great turnout at the AGM and want to hear what our members propose to encourage youngsters.”

NDAA control angling access to the River Bure at St Benets and Woodbastwick and River Thurne at Cold Harbour.
