Attleborough High School has celebrated a double sporting success this winter thanks to the efforts of its year seven boys' football team.

The Attleborough lads were proud winners of the Breckland Partnership Games Schools' seven a-side tournament, held at Wymondham College recently, where their talent and team effort shone through.

The title meant Attleborough represented the Breckland area at the county finals, held at the UEA Sportspark the following week, where the team continued to acquit themselves well and finished runners up out of the eight strongest sides in the county.

Will Crome, head of PE, said: 'The competition for schoolboys who lack the opportunity to play regular sport was seen as a great chance by the Attleborough PE dept to showcase some of the talent amongst year seven.

'Indeed young players such as Ross Coaker and Alex Smart took full advantage of the occasion to demonstrate their skills with some fine performances in midfield.

'Star of the tournament was Aaron Bradley who controlled every game with his accurate passing and all round effort; he was ably supported by Ben Willingham who worked tirelessly up front for the Crows.

'The final against Methwold resulted in a 2-1 win which gave captain Thomas Godden the chance to pick up the winners' medals.'

The boys were faced with the daunting prospect of seven matches in three hours and they struggled to find their rhythm in the first game of the Breckland Games; eventually going down to the tournament winners Broadland.

After that, they rattled off three wins and three draws to move into second. On this occasion it was the defence that secured success as Attleborough kept six consecutive clean sheets thanks to the defensive efforts of Sam Plummer, Liam Potter, William Rutland and captain Godden.

Headmaster Neil McShane added: 'I'm delighted with the success of the team and more importantly with their behaviour. They conducted themselves impeccably throughout two gruelling cold days and still achieved great success for themselves and the school. They are a credit to all at Attleborough.'
