Norwich City Women’s boss Perry Northeast was pleased to see his side return to winning ways but felt there was plenty to learn from the performance.
The Canaries responded to last weekend’s narrow defeat at Rugby by beating Luton Town 2-1 at Sharpenhoe Road in the FAWNL League Cup.
City established a two-goal advantage before the interval, with Millie Daviss and Holly Kennard finding the net, but Chloe Logie reduced the deficit for the hosts midway through the second half.
Luton applied plenty of late pressure as they searched for a leveller, but Northeast’s side stood firm to make it two wins from two in the group stage.
"We're fairly pleased with it today. Pleased in terms of getting over the line result-wise. The performance level, I would say, was moderate today,” he told club channels.
"We wanted to give lots of opportunities to lots of players, which is what this competition is about, as well as trying to progress, so we are happy in that sense from a performance perspective.
"There was some nice football, and the two goals we scored today were directly from the style and the manner in how we wanted to finish an attack, so we're happy with that, and I think the players are happy with that.
"What we would like to do moving forward is try to execute a level of consistency across a game to enable us to see games out in a more comfortable manner as well.
"So that will be the learning for today, and we've had a nice conversation in the changing room directly afterwards, and we'll look to ensure we can continue learning and progressing over the coming weeks."
Despite acknowledging there is still room for improvement, the City boss was quick to praise the calmness shown by his team.
"I think on the whole we were still calm, and that's one of the main things when you're 2-0 up away from home in a cup competition, ensuring that we don't lose our cool in these situations.
"I think we did that well, and the goal that they scored is always going to promote the intensity towards the back end of a game, but I think overall we managed it well,” admitted Northeast.
"We do just have to tidy up some of our habits and some of our behaviours in some phases of the game, but we can look at that this week and ensure that we polish that up for Boldmere."
The Canaries’ two goals both stemmed from clever interplay down the right, an area Northeast admitted they had worked on in training.
"The players are really trying hard to execute that within a training context, and today, it came off twice in the game context, and we still want to demand more in this area,” Northeast said.
"I know the players can offer more in this area; they know they can, and that's not a negative comment, that's more a comment of excitement for what's to come."
