Anthony Musaba ranks his first Norwich City goal as the best of his career and is hoping to show he has returned to England a more complete performer.
The winger opened his City account in their impressive 3-1 away win at Sheffield United, curling into the top corner from the edge of the box to help send Philippe Clement’s side on their way to a first away win of the campaign.
It was the sort of finish Norwich hoped Musaba would bring when they added his pace and unpredictability to their forward options in the summer. The 25-year-old was a persistent threat at Bramall Lane, driving directly at Sheffield United and providing an outlet in transition before producing the moment of quality that opened his City account.
"Top goal. Even me, I was surprised," Musaba told the Pink Un post-match. "It's a top way to score your first goal for the club, and I hope to have more of those goals.
"But first of all, I'm happy to have scored my first goal for Norwich City and to keep going on with my contributions in terms of goals and assists for the team and also in my playing style. This is what I want to contribute, and I'm happy about that today.
"I scored a few nice goals in my career as well. Quality, quality goals. So I'm very happy about that. I think this is definitely my best goal."
Musaba's strike didn't hold any extra significance to him despite connections with the blue and white side of the Steel City, with his focus firmly on his form with Norwich.
"For me personally, not really. But of course I played for Sheffield Wednesday," he said. "This is my old rival, but today I'm playing for Norwich City. I couldn't afford to do a Sheffield dance anymore. So, it's the past."
It was not just the goal that caught the eye. Musaba repeatedly caused Sheffield United problems with his direct running and willingness to attack from wide areas, giving Norwich a reliable outlet as they threatened in the final third.
Musaba believes he has added more consistent end product to his game since his previous spell in the Championship with Wednesday. A move to Turkey followed, first with Samsunspor before he joined Fenerbahce, and he feels those experiences have helped him develop ahead of his loan move to Carrow Road.
"I've experienced a lot last season. Played some European games. I made it in five months, from Samsunspor to Fenerbahce. I played again with some big players," the winger said.
"So, also in terms of my development and my growth as a player, I'm a different player than I was at Sheffield Wednesday. I'm willing to give this version of me this season at Norwich City.
"That's all I'm willing to do and everyone will definitely see it. So, that's what I'm working on."
