Norwich City defender Jakov Medic has completed a loan move to Eredivisie side FC Utrecht, with the Dutch team holding an option to buy the Croat.
The clubs have confirmed Medic returns to the Netherlands on a season-long loan, with an option for Utrecht to sign him permanently next summer. The Croatian is the first deadline-day exit to be confirmed for the Canaries, with Amankwah Forson close to a loan move to Israel.
Medic attracted interest from German Bundesliga and second-tier clubs, but Utrecht have won the race to add the centre-back to their squad.
The 27-year-old fell down the pecking order at Carrow Road, with Ruairi McConville’s rapid development restricting his opportunities at centre-back. Medic was left out of Norwich’s Championship matchday squads towards the end of last season, a pattern which has continued into 2026/27.
After candid conversations in the summer, City brought in Brazilian youngster Bruno Alves on loan from Cruzeiro to push Medic out of their four senior options.
Philippe Clement confirmed earlier this summer that City would consider offers for the Croatian.
"There is availability if there is a team who's interested in them, and it's a good deal for the club," he said. "Those are players who are available to go, but if it's not the case, they stay part of the group and they keep working hard.
"Where they are now, they are they are part of the group. But I also see realistically that there is a lot of competition in their positions, and that they struggle to impose themselves over the last couple of weeks."
Medic was signed last summer from Ajax, signing a contract at Carrow Road until the summer of 2028. He has made 18 appearances for the club, with only five coming since Clement was appointed as head coach last November.
Utrecht will be hoping Medic can help arrest a winless start to their campaign, which has seen them draw one and lose three of their opening Eredivisie matches, conceding 15 times in the process.
