One time Norwich City player Ian Murray has been sacked as Raith Rovers boss just one game into the new season.
The Scottish Championship side have taken the shock decision to relieve Murray of his duties after a 1-0 defeat to Airdrieonians on Saturday, having failed to progress through their League Cup group earlier this summer.
That decision was taken two months after Murray led Raith to a second-placed Championship finish and a play-off final defeat to Ross County over two legs.
In a club statement, Raith said: 'Despite finishing 2nd last season, results and performances since the turn of the year have fallen short of expectations. The board has therefore decided to terminate the manager’s contract.
'The process of appointing a new manager has begun. In the interim, Colin Cameron and John Potter will take on First Team duties until a successor is appointed.'
Murray joined Raith in May 2022, having previously had managerial spells at Dumbarton, St Mirren and Airdrieonians. He took charge of 105 matches during his time at Stark's Park, winning 47, drawing 26 and losing 32.
Norwich signed Murray on a free transfer from Rangers in 2007 and made his debut in a 2-1 defeat against Hull the day after his arrival in Norfolk. He was part of Peter Grant's recruitment drive that included a number of signings from Scotland.
Illness limited his time on the pitch, and Murray subsequently fell out of favour under Glenn Roeder after Grant's resignation. He left City in January 2008 to rejoin Hibernian, where he made 271 appearances across two spells.
