Johannes Hoff Thorup's season with Nordsjaelland ended with a 1-1 draw at Copenhagen as the Dane once again answered questions about links to Norwich City.

Nordsjaelland needed a victory to leapfrog Copenhagen to have the chance to secure European football next season, but were unable to emerge victorious from the game at the Parken Stadium.

Thorup is the bookmaker's favourite to succeed David Wagner at Carrow Road, and Norwich's interest in the Dane is legitimate. They would have to secure a work permit, likely through the exemptions panel, should they wish to hire the 35-year-old.

Norwich have also spoken to ex-Reims boss Will Still and former AZ Alkmaar boss Pascal Jansen about the role, with those both visiting the club's Colney training ground last week.

Thorup was quizzed about the links to the Carrow Road hot seat and once again played a straight bat when asked pre-game on Sunday.

"Have I heard anything from [Norwich]? I want to say, as I have also said several times during this season, that when I am employed somewhere, I have so much respect for the place I am employed," Hoff Thorup told Viaplay.

"Just look at this scenery that is behind me right now. I think it would be so disrespectful of me to go out and talk about other clubs or other situations.

"No matter if it was close or completely miles away - I'm never ever going to go into that because this club means so much that we shouldn't be standing here on the last day of the season talking about everything else."

Thorup was then asked if he saw the links as a compliment for his growing body of work at the Danish club, which again he sidestepped.

"Maybe I'm a little weird when it comes to that. I see it as a greater recognition when the club in which I work, they appreciate that I am there as head coach. I see it as a greater recognition that the players I train every day appreciate playing football the way I want to play football," he added.

"Should at some point during my career be somewhere other than FC Nordsjaelland, I hope it will be the same. What people write and what people think from the outside [is irrelevant]. There is so much talk in this world of football, and there are so many opinions on everything. So what I appreciate most are those who are closest - and that they appreciate the work that I do."

Norwich are hopeful of making an appointment this week as Ben Knapper selects his preferred candidate to lead his project next season.

The search has centred around speaking to coaches who have experience developing young talent, outperforming modest resources and playing a progressive brand of football.

Whoever is pictured holding the yellow and green shirt aloft later this week will be City’s 43rd manager slash head coach.

It will kickstart a summer of change, with the new head coach set to get to work immediately on helping Knapper shape the squad for next season.

Fixtures for the next Championship campaign will be released on Wednesday 26 June at 9:00am, with the make-up of the division confirmed after Southampton's play-off final victory.
