Norwich City are hoping to make an appointment for their head coach role next week - with the club continuing to talk to candidates on Friday.

Reports at lunchtime suggested that a work permit for Nordsjaelland head coach Johannes Thorup had been approved, with Norwich continuing their contingency planning should they elect to offer the role to the Dane.

Norwich are working to several scenarios and, therefore, due diligence over every candidate and the elements required to appoint them as swiftly as possible is being conducted in advance of the role being formally offered to any candidate.

That includes the likelihood of Thorup getting a work permit, with Norwich likely required to lodge an application with the exemptions panel should they wish to hire him.

Former AZ Alkmaar boss Pascal Jansen travelled to Norfolk for talks on Friday, becoming the latest coach to hold a conversation about the vacancy. He follows former Reims boss Will Still in travelling to Norfolk.

Jansen was linked in national media reports earlier in the week and made the trip to the UK to meet City officials as part of the Canaries search for a new boss.

Former Hull boss Liam Rosenior and Arsenal coach Carlos Cuesta are not thought to be in the running for the role.

Sporting director Ben Knapper has led the process of hiring David Wagner's successor after sacking the German less than 24 hours after their play-off semi final defeat to Leeds United last week.

Norwich are hoping a new head coach will help with a summer of change at Carrow Road, with the average age of the squad expected to be reduced.

Thorup, 35, has one game remaining of the Superliga campaign with Nordsjaelland away at FC Copenhagen on Sunday.

Both Jansen and Still are free agents, having left AZ Alkmaar and Reims earlier in the year, respectively.
