Premier League side Crystal Palace have reportedly joined the race to sign Norwich City star Gabriel Sara.

Brazilian outlet UOL claim that the Premier League outfit have started conversations with Sara’s entourage ahead of a potential summer move.

Palace are among several Premier League and European clubs that have scouted Sara throughout the Championship campaign, which saw him contribute 25 goals and earn a place in the league’s official team of the season.

The report backs up claims in Italy earlier this week that Sara is also on the radar of Serie A club Roma, who are on the hunt for a box-to-box midfielder. New technical director Florent Ghisolfi has supposedly identified the Norwich man as a target.

Norwich are braced for interest in the 24-year-old, with Sao Paulo said to be entitled to 10pc of any profit made from a potential exit.

Sara is understood to be happy at Carrow Road and unlikely to force a move away, but does hold aspirations of playing Premier League football.

Norwich are expected to demand a high fee for Sara, with Josh Sargent, Jon Rowe and Angus Gunn also expected to attract interest this summer. Sporting director Ben Knapper is undertaking a rebuild of the squad after a failure to gain promotion under David Wagner last season.

Sara was ever-present in that campaign, playing as a central, attacking and wide midfielder throughout the campaign.

Palace enjoyed a productive end to the Premier League campaign under new boss Oliver Glasner - winning six of their last seven matches, including 4-0 victories over Manchester United and Aston Villa.

There is expected to be interest in Palace duo Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze, which would leave them searching for replacements.

Palace do have a track record for recruiting in the EFL, Olise and Eze are examples, but most recently swooping for Adam Wharton from Blackburn in January, who has impressed enough to earn a spot in Gareth Southgate's provisional squad for Euro 2024.

They have also been boosted by news that sporting director Dougie Freedman is set to reject the advances of Newcastle United.
