Norwich City are interested in FC Nordsjaelland's Johannes Hoff Thorup but are planning to speak with other candidates in their search for a new head coach.

The 35-year-old is one that Norwich are considering as David Wagner's successor, but it's understood he would require a work permit and discussions at this stage are not at an advanced stage.

City plan to meet with other candidates this week as they ramp up their search, with other names being considered. Former AZ Alkmaar boss Pascal Jansen was linked with the vacancy by national media on Monday.

A manager will only be granted a GBE if they have managed a club in a [Band 1-5] league for [24 months consecutive or 36 months total]. Thorup has 16 months in total, meaning Norwich would likely have to make their case to an exemptions panel should they wish to hire him.

Former Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper is also one that has been ruled out, according to reports. Interest in Arsenal coach Carlos Cuesta has cooled despite talks being held with him last autumn.

Sporting director Ben Knapper is working on a shortlist of targets as they continue to hunt for a new boss.

That will involve conversations with two or three other candidates this week as they search for the best option. The job hasn't been offered to any candidate at this stage, with other names in the frame likely to emerge over the coming days.

Thorup, who has been in charge of the Danish side since January 2023, is one of the highest-rated young coaches in Europe, known for an attractive playing style and development of young talent.

Nordsjaellend play their final game of the league season on Sunday against FC Copenhagen, having been in charge of their 3-3 draw with FC Midtjylland on Monday night.

They currently sit fourth in the Superliga table having nine of their 14 league matches. Thorup has earned a reputation for developing young talent, with Nordsjaelland ran with a heavy data approach.

Thorup stepped into the role back in January 2023, having spent two years as assistant to Flemming Pedersen before he moved to become a wider footballing role in Nordsjaelland's ownership group 'Right to Dream'.

He has earned praise in Denmark for challenging with the heavyweights in the Superliga. Norwich hold an interest as they continue to search for Wagner's successor.
