Those on the Norwich City comeback trail have timed their return from injury to perfection for David Wagner.

The Canaries welcomed Jacob Sorensen and Christian Fassnacht back to their matchday squad for Saturday's draw against Bristol City, a result that pushed them closer to securing a top-six finish.

That target will provide further motivation for those who have entered the final stages of their recovery like Grant Hanley and Dimi Giannoulis, who is due back before the end of the regular campaign.

City's bench has been filled with youth options of late, with as many as four under-21 players making the bench for their 1-0 victory over Preston. Wagner was pleased to have more options with others poised for a return in the coming weeks.

Jon Rowe's return has also driven standards up among their frontline forward options.

"Not only competition but support as well. We have to have players who can make an impact and support the team when needed as a starter or as an impact player.

"Obviously, it is good to have more and more back at the exact right time of the season. I would have loved to have that eight weeks ago, but it is how it is. I think we came through this period super good, extraordinarily good.

"Now, with these players back, we are really looking forward to it," City's boss said after Saturday's Bristol City stalemate.

"Let's tell the truth, we are involved in a really exciting period. Nothing is better than being involved that this stage of the season in games which count and this is exactly what happens to us, especially after what we've had in November.

"Last year at this time, it was anything but enjoyable to play the last games without anything."

Sorensen replaced Ashley Barnes late on with Fassnacht, who missed their trip to Lancashire due to the birth of his baby daughter, coming on for Borja Sainz in the final stages of the clash.

Wagner felt that ability to have more experienced options on the bench helped secure the point despite an off-colour performance against the in-form Robins.

"They helped us for sure to get this result over the line," Wagner said. "It looks like Grant [Hanley] will be back in team training from Tuesday onwards—another one who can then help and support.

"All of them didn't have a lot of team training so far, but they can help us reach our target. Luckily, we got one or other back."
