Samuel Seaman delivers his verdict on Norwich City, after they lost a 2-0 lead to fall 3-2 against Watford.

George Long

Followed his first clean sheet at the club with his worst performance since signing, reminding City fans why Angus Gunn's return is such a positive going into Sunday's trip to Bristol.

Inexplicably spilled Jamal Lewis' long-range effort but made up for it with Ismael Kone's rebound effort. Should have done better when the Canadian scored a minute later, however, and was nowhere to be seen when the ball dropped in his six-yard box for the second Watford goal.

Spilling shots became a theme, and that's exactly what he did to allow Yaser Asprilla to notch the decisive strike. 2

Jack Stacey

One good block to deny Jamal Lewis as the Watford onslaught grew strength in the first half, but very little else that was memorable.

Booked for fouling Ken Sema in the 35th minute and replaced by Kellen Fisher in the 67th having failed to make an impression at Vicarage Road.

Back to the standards that saw him dropped for Fisher at the Cardiff City Stadium, having seemingly returned to his best in the second half in South Wales. 4

Shane Duffy

Signed partly for his leadership, experience and mentality qualities, but was a significant part of a defensive collapse that cost his side.

His greatest interventions came by way of digging out team-mates after goals had been conceded, rather than taking steps to prevent them in the first place. Gave little consideration to his distribution, using aimless swinging boots when his team-mates had opportunities to counter.

At most clubs his place would be under threat, but given David Wagner's priorities that seems unlikely. 4

Danny Batth

Looked to be on the way to another impressive performance after two sturdy ones to begin his Norwich career in earnest.

Firmly headed Gabriel Sara's corner home for the opener in just the third minute, but allowed Mileta Rajovic to stroll into the six-yard box unchallenged and head beyond a hapless Long.

Similarly to Duffy, did little to prevent the Hornets' simple offensive work and will be looking back wondering how things tumbled so quickly from high point to low point after that early goal to open his City account. 5

Dimitris Giannoulis

Another mixed display, but he came out looking better than most of his colleagues.

Had the beating of Ryan Andrews on the Watford right, which saw a productive first half but failed to help him in the second.

Wasn't helped by Onel Hernandez, who had a nightmare in front of him and failed to create the overlapping space the Greek needed to connect with the strikers Wagner deployed. 5

Kenny McLean

On the ball his distribution was mixed, but off it he failed to provide the requisite protection for a defence now used to being exposed.

A couple of cross-field passes that found wingers but weren't taken advantage of. Wasn't the same all-action presence he has been throughout the majority of the season. 5

Gabriel Sara

The one anomaly in a team that largely was significantly sub-standard. Underlined why he's likely to be playing at a higher level next term, whether that's with Norwich or more likely without.

Found Batth perfectly with a corner for his seventh assist of the season, repeating the trick nine minutes later to slide Hwang Ui-jo through for a fierce finish. Did more than his fair share of defensive work and was unlucky to be on the losing side. 7

Christian Fassnacht

Summed up why the function-first Wagner views him as such a favourite with a tactically efficient but uninspiring performance.

Quietly effective defensively, making numerous interceptions as Watford looked to play into midfield. Did very little once he was on the ball, however, with a lame attempt to win a free-kick summing up his efforts in possession.

One of the main culprits in a side that his head coach felt coughed up too many turnovers in the second half. If he does retain his place it'll be because of Wagner's own preferences and a lack of competition. 4

Adam Idah

Few chances to impress, but failed to really impose himself on a game that was a big chance. Offered a more dynamic presence than Ashley Barnes or Liam Gibbs, however.

Came close to an important goal when he cut in twice and saw his deflected shot beaten away by Ben Hamer. A yard off Giannoulis' through ball as City searched for a way back into the game.

Will likely be given another chance by Hwang's hamstring injury, but whether he takes it remains to be seen. Mixed signals. 5

Onel Hernandez

Made very little contribution on yet another disappointing night from the Cuban. Gifted the chance to counter attack numerous times, especially in the second half, but wasted those chances with aimless dribbling and indecision.

Somehow stayed on the pitch for the dull 90 minutes despite his lack of quality on the ball. Summed up his evening in the second half by smashing a pass out for a Watford throw-in. 2

Hwang Ui-jo

Only made one real contribution but it should have been enough to win the game for a side set up to be defensively solid. An excellent strike that defied the odds when many would have chosen to pass. 7

SUBSTITUTES

Ashley Barnes (on for Hwang, 17)

His character and mentality are often discussed as strengths, but he came into a side that was 2-0 up and left the field with a 3-2 loss.

Again lacked the technical quality required, struggling to get into the game offensively and rarely finding accurate passes. Became a third centre-back far too often, with rushed hacks clear his main contribution.

He fits Wagner’s age and character profile, but looks to be doing little else in Josh Sargent’s absence. 3

Liam Gibbs (on for Idah, 68)

Brought on by Wagner for his supposed speed, but lacked the technical quality and movement to make it count. Another workhorse utilised in a strange role by the German.

If anything the reaction to the young midfielder’s replacement of Idah inspired sympathy, with few of a yellow and green persuasion feeling he would change things and all of them proven right.

Simply not a striker. 3

Kellen Fisher (on for Stacey, 68)

A couple of decent crosses as Norwich attempted to find an equaliser. No obvious errors. 5

Borja Sainz (on for

One volley poked goalward earned a corner late on. Brought on far too late. What does he have to do to get a start? 6

Marcelino Nunez (on for

One nice turn and short pass in his own half. N/A
