Norwich City’s Championship season may be tanking but Kellen Fisher’s emergence is a genuine bright spot for David Wagner.

The 19-year-old was pitched into the fray against Sunderland’s prolific goalscoring winger Jack Clarke for his league debut, and capped an assured display with the assist for Hwang Ui-Jo’s opener in a 3-1 defeat.

Fisher got the nod over Jack Stacey on Wearside last weekend, who had been a key figure in a bright early season start for the Canaries.

Wagner feels it is now game on between the duo ahead of Sunday’s lunchtime date with Blackburn at Carrow Road.

“I think we have a proper right back talent in our football club with Kellen Fisher,” he said. “After Sunderland I believe everyone now knows this. If you consider that this was his first Championship game, first minutes in the Championship, first start, against Sunderland away from home and against maybe one of the best wingers in the league as well, this makes his performance even bigger.

“The great thing is at least now everybody sees we have proper competition on the right back position because, fair play to Jack Stacey, he was one of our most solid players maybe so far, if you take out the last home game but, apart from this, he performed on a consistently good level.

“So fair play to him but there is now competition and this is great on this position, especially if it's such a young player and such a talented player who, for sure, will make some further steps.”

The 19-year-old was not even part of Bromley’s National League squad 12 months ago, but grabbed his chance in pre-season with the departure of Max Aarons and his initial impact was a factor in Wagner sanctioning Bali Mumba’s surprise return to Plymouth.
