David Wagner warns Norwich City must cut out the individual errors dragging them down the Championship.

The likes of experienced defensive trio Ben Gibson, Dimi Giannoulis and Shane Duffy have all been culpable for goals conceded during a wretched run.

Gibson put through his own net in the 1-1 Championship draw at Coventry City before the recent international period.

Giannoulis then turned into trouble to spark Leeds' second half fightback in a 3-2 Carrow Road loss, before Duffy was heavily involved in two of Sunderland's goals last weekend.

Wagner has come in for growing criticism from home and away fans during the tailspin, but the City head coach backs his old heads to respond ahead of Blackburn’s Carrow Road visit.

“I know no player does it on purpose. But it shows they are mentally not on the highest level, and obviously it's my job to get this sorted,” he said. “I think we should not shy away from this.

"Everybody sees who does the mistakes and, yes, at this minute it is my senior pros. And this hurts double, and it costs, because these are normally the players you can lean on, and who you can give them the ball in certain situations.

"But at the minute, unfortunately, this is exactly where the problem is; but not only them to be fair. It's so strange, because this dressing room is a good dressing room - they stick together, and you see how they really try.”

City’s last shut out came in their only win in nine league and cup games, against Birmingham City on September 30.

“Our job is to set up the team against every opponent with an idea how to attack and how to defend,” said Wagner. “I think a lot of things, offensively, worked, because we created opportunities.

"Defensively, obviously, we conceded some chances as well. But this also depends on the quality of the opponent. The goals which we gave away with mistakes, this is just not good enough in this moment.

“This group is together. You see when someone makes a mistake how everybody tries to lift him. But it doesn't change that in recent weeks we made far too many of them, and far too big mistakes, so then it's too easy against us to score, and we can't keep a clean sheet as well.”
