David Wagner has extra striking solutions in his Norwich City ranks after ruling Teemu Pukki out of contention for Saturday's trip to Wigan.

The Finnish international is nursing a slight calf injury, an issue that isn't expected to keep him out of action for a significant period of time.

Wagner, who has spoken about his preference to carry three strikers in his matchday squad and likes to play with a front two, is not going to delve into City's academy for a short-term fix.

Although, there was an admission that he will have to monitor Adam Idah's fitness after his recent return from a long-term knee injury.

"We have two top strikers, and I think they have shown it, even if we need to keep an eye on Adam Idah's fitness," Wagner said at his pre-match press conference.

"He has done very well with Josh (Sargent) and we have to progress him in an intelligent way after the period which he had. I'm very happy to have him back.

"We have other players who can play in the second striking position - Liam (Gibbs) can play there, Nacho (Marcelino Nunez) can play there, Gabby (Sara) can play there, so we have very good alternatives.

"I'm not too worried about the situation even if every manager, me included, would like to have Teemu available, fit and in the squad. I have every trust and belief in the squad of players that we have for the game against Wigan."

Wagner delivered a largely positive fitness bulletin beyond Pukki's absence, revealing that Arsenal loanee Marquinhos will rejoin training on Friday after a muscle injury kept him sidelined for last weekend's trip to Bristol City and the midweek clash against Hull.

Sam McCallum will also return to his thoughts after shaking off a minor knock that kept him out of the Hull fixture. Pukki's injury isn't anticipated to keep him out of action in the long term.

"Teemu is out. If long-term means a month, then I don't expect it," he said. "We have to assess it. We know he is out for Saturday - what it means for the rest of the next week we will have to see.

"Sam McCallum is back in training. Marquinhos will be back in training tomorrow (Friday) and everyone else is healthy after the last game."
